Federal Work-Study (FWS) for Research Assistants

Students

Federal Work-Study provides students with valuable part-time work experiences and the opportunity to earn funds to assist with educational and living expenses. Eligibility is based on a student’s financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and federal funding availability.

If you are an undergraduate student, interested in performing research, and you have completed a FAFSA, you may be eligible for employment through Federal Work-Study. Visit myBama, Student Page, Student Financial Aid, Your Financial Aid Self-Service, and view the Financial Assistance section to check if you have an award offer for Federal Work-Study.

Faculty/Employers

Federal Work-Study provides students with valuable part-time work experiences and the opportunity to earn funds to assist with educational and living expenses. Eligibility is based on a student’s financial need, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and federal funding availability. FWS student employees may not replace regularly employed positions or displace employees or impair existing service contracts.

If you have an undergraduate student Research Assistant position, you may complete a Job Vacancy form so that the job opening can be evaluated and if approved, the vacancy will be posted on the FWS Job Board. Only FWS-eligible students have access FWS Job Board. Access the Job Vacancy form.
