Conferences
Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity Conference
Undergraduate Research & Creative Activities Conference (URCA) is hosted by the Office for Undergraduate Research each spring. Students across academic disciplines are encouraged to submit their finished research or works in progress for review for presentation.
National Conference on Undergraduate Research
The Council on Undergraduate Research hosts a national conference open to undergraduate researchers nationwide, NCUR. NCUR is an excellent opportunity to present your research and get feedback from other faculty members and students from all over the country.
Students may also have the chance to present at a conference within their discipline or academic focus area. Students are encouraged to work with their faculty mentors to determine the best avenues for presenting within their discipline(s).
Publications
The University of Alabama is home to multiple undergraduate research publications. The Office for Undergraduate Research encourages UA students to submit their research to any of UA’s outstanding undergraduate publications. Submission guidelines and additional publication information can be found on each individual publication’s website.
UA Publications
Journal of Science and Health at the University of Alabama (JOSHUA)
This student-produced interdisciplinary journal is written, edited, and published by undergraduates at the University of Alabama. JOSHUA is published once a year and features articles covering a wide range of topics, including but not limited to biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, and mathematics.
The Capstone Journal of Law & Public Policy
Published by the University of Alabama Legal Research Club, the Capstone Journal of Law and Public Policy is the first undergraduate-run law review in the state of Alabama.
The Crimson Historical Review
The Crimson Historical Review is the University of Alabama’s first undergraduate history journal, and one of the few of its type in the country. The Editorial Board, Design Team, and Review Board are all comprised of UA undergraduate students.
Marr’s Field Journal
Marr’s Field Journal, the University of Alabama’s premier undergraduate art and literary magazine, was created in 1989 as a forum for emerging writers and artists. The journal’s annual publication showcases exceptional undergraduate poetry, prose, dance, theater, art, and music composition. An esteemed organization within the Office of Student Media, MFJ takes great pride in promoting creative thought at the University of Alabama.
New College Review
Started in 1983, New College Review is produced and published annually by undergraduate students at The University of Alabama. New College Review seeks to publish compelling articles, art, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction that address, in some way, each issue’s theme
Dewpoint
Dewpoint Magazine is a literary magazine designed to showcase the best original poetry, prose, and critical works by students at The University of Alabama.
External Publications
The Council on Undergraduate Research recognizes several undergraduate publications that accept submissions from outside of their own colleges and universities. Students from The University of Alabama may consider publishing their research externally, as well. A list of recognized publications can be found on the Council on Undergraduate Research website.
Red Rook Press
Red Rook Press is a blossoming publishing house for developing novelists and poets. Our goal is to foster and premiere the creative minds of undergraduate and graduate students still establishing themselves in the writing world by giving them the opportunity to bring their voice to life. We crave any form and genre, from high fantasy to literary fiction, from sonnets to freeform. And you don’t have to be an English student either– sometimes the best voices are those we don’t expect. We’d love to publish writers and poets from any academic background.
With our staff made up of undergraduates dedicated to every process of publication and a stellar collection of professional advisors, we hope to bring two new books of prose and poetry into the world every academic year. Hit the bookshelves next April to find the newest of Red Rook Press!
Ripple Arts Review
Ripple Arts Review is a digital magazine for arts criticism and journalism in West Alabama. A student-led, written, and designed publication, Ripple aims to publish critical work that contributes to the cultural dialogue of the area and serve as a digital collective space for the local arts community.
