Faculty Research Day

The purpose of Faculty Research Day is to showcase and celebrate excellence in research, creativity, and scholarship by bringing together faculty from across our campus. The event is also intended to increase awareness and generate enthusiasm for scholarship among faculty as the University advances its research enterprise and its impact.

Additionally, during the event, the President’s Faculty Research Award, sponsored by our President and the Vice President for Research & Economic Development, is awarded to outstanding faculty researchers from across UA Colleges and Schools.

SEC Faculty Program

The SEC Faculty Travel Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. It gives full-time faculty members from one SEC university the opportunity to travel to another SEC campus to exchange ideas, develop grant proposals, present lectures, conduct research, and deliver performances.

Internal Funding Programs

CREATE Program

The Championing Resources for Excellence in Arts/Humanities Transformational Efforts (CREATE) Program provides up to $4,000 to support initial or seed funding for research programs, scholarly initiatives, or creative scholarship for projects involving American studies, art, communication, dance, education, English, modern languages and classics, history, international studies, journalism, law, music, philosophy, political science, public relations, religious studies, telecommunications/film, and theatre.

FUSE Program

The Facilitating Uni-PI Science and Engineering (FUSE)Program provides up to $20,000 to support initial or seed funding for research programs, scholarly initiatives, or creative scholarship projects.  These may include social and behavioral sciences, inclusive of the communication and information sciences (e.g., journalism, advertising, and communication); the physical, biological, and mathematical sciences; and engineering. 

Senior Fellows Program

The Office for Research & Economic Development (ORED) Senior Fellows Program identifies research leaders in future fields of preeminence for The University of Alabama and provides support to these Fellows.

SPARC Program

The Stimulating Partnerships to Accelerate Research Collaboration (SPARC) Program will empower faculty members at The University of Alabama to achieve national prominence by providing faculty teams with the necessary internal resources to support critical research development and scholarship activities.

Faculty Travel Grant

The Office for Research & Economic Development may provide funding to support visits with federal agencies and program officers in Washington D.C. The goal of this program is to improve the competitiveness of proposals from The University of Alabama faculty and research professionals by facilitating interaction with prospective sponsors that can provide direct funding to UA.

Conference Grant Program

The State-of-the-Art Research & Creativity Conference Grant Program sponsored by ORED, provides UA faculty the opportunity to organize a distinctive conference on UA’s campus that explores and promotes new ideas and initiatives. Priority will be given to new conferences that are

  1. designed to engage and involve both graduate and undergraduate students
  2. transformative and cross-disciplinary;
  3. seek to develop mutually beneficial research, scholarship and creative activity partnerships with other research universities, both domestic and international.
