ALABAMA CYBER INSTITUTE

ACI advances the understanding of cyber issues and develops and implements a comprehensive cyber research and education program, creating a more secure, stable, and advanced digital future. ACI collaborates extensively with other UA institutes to provide expertise related to its main foci. The institute focuses extensively in

ALABAMA LIFE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

ALRI serves as a focal point for interdisciplinary biopsychosocial research that investigates the human condition at all levels to improve lives across the world. The institute collaborates with UA centers, other institutions, health care corporations, governmental agencies, and community-based organizations. ALRI pursues five research themes:

  • Rural Health and Health Disparities
  • Neuroscience
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Environmental Sciences and Health
  • Implementation Science

Alabama Materials Institute

The Alabama Materials Institute facilitates interdisciplinary materials research encompassing metallography, ceramics, polymers, bio-inspired materials, and composites.

Teams of researchers, faculty, and students work collaboratively to identify and advance new materials, understand their fundamental properties, and develop novel processes for synthesis, fabrication and manufacturing using advanced experimental and computational approaches.

In that endeavor, the Alabama Materials Institute supports synergistic core facilities and affiliated research centers in these thematic areas.

ALABAMA TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTE

Automated, Connected, Electric, Shared & Safe Mobility

ATI facilitates and provides world-class leadership for interdisciplinary research, promoting transportation infrastructure, innovation, and advancements that impact Alabama and the nation. ATI supports collaborations around these emergent themes:

  • Digital Transportation
  • Connected Vehicles and Infrastructure
  • Transportation Safety, Security, and Accessibility
  • Electric Vehicles and Fuel Economy
  • Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure

ALABAMA WATER INSTITUTE

AWI oversees three influential research programs: the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology, the Global Water Security Center, and the CONSERVE Research Group.

Each of these programs acts as a catalyst for interdisciplinary collaboration among UA’s colleges and partner entities, uniting experts in engineering, computer science, biology, social science, economics, and more. Together, they address a broad spectrum of water-related challenges on local, regional, national, and global scales, generating crucial information and pioneering solutions essential for shaping a safer and more sustainable water future.
