SEC Faculty Travel Program
2024-2025 Academic Year
The SEC Faculty Travel Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. It gives full-time faculty members from one SEC university the opportunity to travel to another SEC campus to exchange ideas, conduct collaborative research, and develop grant proposals, performances and exhibits.
At The University of Alabama, the SEC Faculty Travel Program is administered by the Office for Research & Economic Development (ORED), consistent with its mission.
ORED emphasizes developing collaborative grant proposals and conducting longer-term high-impact collaborative research and scholarly activities as the primary objective, and proposals emphasizing this will be given top priority.
In a typical travel period, ORED will utilize funds from the SEC to support about five proposals, at about $2,000 each, with a typical justified range of $500 to $3,500 for each award. However, ORED often supplements SEC funds to support up to ten highly meritorious proposals.
Program Details
- The program is intended only for full-time faculty and may not be used for support staff and/or students.
- The faculty member must contact the SEC university they wish to visit to determine receptivity and availability, and receive a letter of invitation from the host university (host faculty, department head, dean, etc.) specifying anticipated travel dates, collaborative plans, and expectations.
- Each SEC university receives funds for its own faculty; funds are not intended for individuals the university and/or faculty might host.

- Current Professional Headshot (color, 1000×1000 pixels, 72 dpi resolution, jpeg format)
- Host University’s Invitation Letter
- Anticipated Collaborative Grant Proposal(s)
- Estimated Travel Expenses (i.e., mileage and/or airfare, per diem, accommodations, and other justified travel expenses)
- The required application materials must be emailed to Angie Brown by 4:45 pm on June 30 of each year (late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered).
- All faculty members participating in the program will be submitted to the SEC office by August 1 for publication on the SEC Faculty Travel Program webpage.
- If awarded, Angie Brown will forward accounting information to be used when reconciling travel expenses in Concur. Expense transactions should be reconciled in Concur before July 31.
- Carry-over of funds is not available.
- Once travel is complete, the SEC Faculty Travel Program Participation Summary must be completed using the SEC’s online form (link below).
