Cayuse Research Suite
The Cayuse Research Suite is a connected cloud-based research suite that is designed to simplify the preparation and electronic submission of proposals and other research administration processes. The system provides faculty and administrators with the opportunity to improve efficiency, collaboration, and compliance specific to research administration processes.
The University of Alabama currently uses the following Cayuse apps to administer sponsored project activities:
- Cayuse Sponsored Projects (SP) – sponsored project management software that simplifies the management of sponsored projects from proposal development through close-out. Centralizes the proposal submission and award management processes through the use of electronic routing to reduce review time, central hub for proposal information and status, and role-based dashboards to improve efficiency.
- Cayuse Proposals (S2S) – grant proposal submission software that reduces administrative burden and improves submission success rates through the use of pre-populated and auto-fill capabilities, subaward import functionality and real-time error validations that ensure proposal accuracy. Cayuse Proposals provides system-to-system submission for Grants.gov federal funding opportunities.
- Cayuse Outside Interests – software that manages required disclosures of significant financial and other interests. By using Cayuse Outside Interests in conjunction with the other Cayuse modules, researchers will be able to ensure that their disclosures are complete, up-to-date, and timely, in compliance with the requirements of research sponsors and UA policies.

Getting Started
Cayuse can be accessed from the myBama portal using your myBama ID and password. The platform can be accessed on most web browsers and it is recommended that users configure their preferred browser with the following settings: cookies enabled, pop-ups allowed and JavaScript enabled.
If an employee needs to be added, removed, or profile updated in the system, please email erasupport@ua.edu.
Proposal Routing, Review, and Approval
To ensure successful proposal submissions and compliance with regulatory requirements, all externally sponsored grants and contracts require an Internal Processing Form (IPF) to be routed and approved in Cayuse SP.
Deadline-driven proposal submissions require an approved IPF prior to proposal submission. Grants and contracts that do not have a formal deadline require an approved IPF prior to execution of an agreement by an Authorized Organizational Representative. Additional resources related to the routing process are available for review.
