The University of Alabama Office for Research & Economic Development is pleased to announce the 2023-2024 SEC Faculty Travel Program award recipients.
The SEC Faculty Travel Program provides an opportunity for full-time faculty to travel to other universities in the Southeastern Conference to collaborate with fellow faculty and researchers with the goal of developing long-term, high-impact grant proposals, performances, and exhibits.
“I believe it’s important to support collaboration and effective teamwork,” says Dr. Allen Parrish, interim vice president for research & economic development. “The 2023-2024 applicants presented a broad array of interesting and impactful projects. I’m happy we could provide this support.”
This year, the following UA faculty received funding from the SEC, with additional support from ORED’s internal fund.
College of Arts & Sciences
- Albert Pionke, assistant dean for general education, William and Margaret Going Endowed Professor of English, will visit the University of Georgia.
- Amanda Edgell, assistant professor, will visit the University of Tennessee.
- Arial Shogren, assistant professor, will visit the University of Georgia.
- Eric Lake, assistant professor, will visit the University of South Carolina.
- Jared Margulies, assistant professor, will visit Texas A&M University.
- Katherine Chiou and Lawrence Cappello, both assistant professors, submitted a joint proposal and will visit multiple SEC universities.
- Lukasz Ciesla, assistant professor, will visit Auburn University.
- Matthew Valasik, associate professor, will visit the University of Arkansas.
- Osiris Molina, professor, will visit the University of South Carolina.
- Paul Houghtaling, professor, will visit the University of Mississippi.
- Wanyun Shao, associate professor, will visit Texas A&M University.
College of Communication & Information Sciences
- Nikita Harris, associate professor, will visit Louisiana State University.
College of Education
- Courtney O’Grady, assistant professor, will visit Vanderbilt University.
- Jeremy Zelkowski, associate professor, will visit the University of Florida.
College of Engineering
- Denis Aslangil, assistant professor, will visit the University of Tennessee.
- Rohan Sood, associate professor, will visit Vanderbilt University.
College of Human Environmental Sciences
- Jaye Thiel, assistant professor, will visit the University of Arkansas.
- Sherwood Burns-Nader, associate professor, will visit Vanderbilt University.
Awards from the SEC and ORED’s internal fund totaled $29,220. Applications are due each year by June 30 and more information can be found on the ORED website.
