The Office for Research & Economic Development has named Kory Trott the new director for research ethics and compliance, effective Mar. 4.
Trott comes to The University of Alabama from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he served as the director of the research integrity and consultation program and as the research integrity officer. Prior to that, he held several roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supporting the Human Research Protection Office.
As director, Trott will lead the Office for Research Ethics and Compliance (OREC), formerly Research Compliance, during a strategic transformation to reform procedures, processes and electronic systems to assist researchers in the performance of human, animal and biosafety research. The director will also engage with researchers and provide outreach, education, training and mentorship programs to the University community on research ethics and compliance topics. Trott will report to Lauren Wilson, Associate Vice President for Research.
Trott is an experienced researcher and was co-Principal Investigator on an NSF award titled “Institutional Transformation: Transforming Cultures of Responsible Research through the Development of Ethics Expertise and Self-Efficacy among Faculty through Social Networks.”
He holds a Bachelor of Science in biological anthropology from George Washington University, a Master of Public Health from Drexel University School of Public Health, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Trott is a member in good standing of the Wisconsin Bar and has served on Institutional Review Boards and research journal editorial boards.
