
Dr. M.N.V. Ravi Kumar, Distinguished University Research Professor in the Department of Translational Science and Medicine in the College of Community Health Sciences, has been elected as a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM). This honor recognizes his outstanding research contributions in the fields of medicine and pharmaceutical science.
The New York Academy of Medicine (NYAM) is a professional organization that advances innovation in public health. Its nearly 2,000 fellows are accomplished leaders in their fields, which span medicine, nursing, social work, policy, law, government, pharmacy, dentistry and administration. Fellows are elected by their peers and play a key role in advancing NYAM’s mission to improve health equity and public health outcomes worldwide.
An internationally recognized voice in the fields of nanoscience and nanomedicine, Kumar’s research focuses on developing novel drug delivery mechanisms and their application to inflammatory, infectious, and vascular disease conditions. His work combines numerous health disciplines and has resulted in groundbreaking discoveries in medicine design and educational opportunities for other scientists.
He is the director of the UA Center for Convergent Bioscience and Medicine, where he leads an integrated approach combining innovative drug delivery strategies with new drug discovery and drug repurposing.
His work has earned him numerous accolades, including being elected as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the National Academy of Inventors, Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburg (FRSE), and Foreign Member of the French National Academy of Pharmacy. He has also earned the AAPS Global Leader Award and the prestigious Humboldt Research Prize.
