Research & Proposal Development

The Office for Research & Proposal Development (ORPD) is committed to serving research faculty at The University of Alabama seeking support with grant proposals. ORPD focuses on helping UA faculty produce high-quality research proposals that meet the needs of the campus, community, state, and beyond. ORPD provides a variety of resources to UA faculty and researchers seeking support with grant proposals. Our services include:

  • Provide Pivot training to help faculty identify funding opportunities
  • Proposal development:
    • Checklists and timelines
    • Assists with reading through funding announcements
    • Assists with drafting Letters of Support
    • Provides boilerplate material including institutional language
    • Sample proposals
  • Coordinate limited submissions from UA
  • Facilitate partnership with TIG, including:
    • Pre-submission proposal reviews
    • Technical assistance with editing, proofing, graphics, and formatting
    • Proposal development workshops
    • Post factum review, analysis and resubmission
  • Manage the small grant program (ORED internal funding)

HELPFUL TIPS TO GET YOU STARTED ON YOUR PROPOSAL

If you have an idea or interest:

  • Talk to your Associate Dean for Research about your idea
  • Review various agency websites and determine which mission best aligns with your research interests
  • Develop a white paper to share with a program officer

If you see a Request for Application you would like to submit to:

  • Contact your grant specialist in the Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) at least 10 business days prior to the sponsor deadline and let them know you plan to submit. For more information please contact OSP.
